Wire Weaving… It is Addictive!

Some time ago a customer asked if I could make her a copper and dark red stone combination bracelet & necklace set. She even sent me a picture to show what kind of thing she had in mind, and it was something I have not done before!

Of course I can! But this is a very special lady who has made me try new ideas in the past, and I wanted to do something special for this new piece.

And that’s why I decided to learn more about delicate wire weaving techniques.

Timeless Wire Weaving by Lisa Barth
This Birthday present was very timely too! Thank you Lisa Barth for writing this fabulous book Timeless Wire Weaving which has given me a lot of help in learning how to join lots of pieces of wire neatly and making sure it is not flimsy.

This is the first finished piece I have done after teaching myself how to weave with wire. What do you think?

And this has helped me to experiment further and try more ideas. Remember that copper and red stone order I still have to make?

So the journey continues

And finally something taking shape that will be used to make that Bracelet and Necklace set for my very patient and inspiring customer in London.

I have not forgotten about my new passion for coppersmithing and metal forging, but wire is my very special love and trying new ideas in this medium just has to be part of anything I do as I take a few more steps towards launching my new website Shalini Austin Designs sometime soon.
